The Mount Vernon Community Band will perform a free summer concert at the Park National Bank Pavilion inside Ariel Park on June 7 at 4 p.m. The event promises a musical journey through space and time, with selections ranging from film favorites like "Frozen" to pieces inspired by locations in the Pacific Northwest, Spain, France, and even outer space.
According to the band’s announcement, "We start at your sofa, watching ‘Frozen’, head across the US to the Pacific Northwest, cross the ocean to Spain and France, head to outer space through the solar system, and then off we go to Oz and beyond!"
Round Hill Dairy will be present at the event offering ice cream. The band said, "What is a road trip without at least one stop for ice cream? Luckily for us, Round Hill Dairy has agreed, and they will be there to provide our ice cream needs! (And it is a need!)"
The concert is expected to last about an hour. Organizers hope community members will attend in support of local artists and businesses while enjoying nature.
The Mount Vernon Community Band describes itself as an ever-growing group of musicians from Knox, Licking, Morrow, and Richland counties. The group currently has around 55 members with skill levels ranging from novice to professional. Members meet weekly and perform throughout the year at venues such as nursing homes, Woodward Opera House, First Fridays events, among others. The band is open to new participants and encourages anyone who has played music in the past to join.
