Ariel-Foundation Park will host Mount Vernon's fireworks on Thursday, July 4. The fireworks, expected to start around 10 p.m., will be preceded by a concert at the Schnormeier Event Center, with opener McLennon at 5 p.m., Chaz and Nicki at 6 p.m., and headliners Tom the Torpedoes at 7 p.m.

Honoring a trail system can be a fun outdoor event for the entire community, and one such celebration will take place locally on Sunday. The Bike Knox Celebration is a free community event to honor The Heart of Ohio Trail, Kokosing Gap Trail and Mohican Valley Trail as they celebrate milestone anniversaries.

Controlled goose hunt notice: The City of Mount Vernon is accepting applications for participation in a controlled goose hunt at Ariel-Foundation Park.

Executive Director Mark Fritz and park staff have been incredibly busy with physical upgrades and changes to structures and landscapes this summer, working hard to provide these improvements.

Directed by Dr. Benjamin Locke, the Knox County Symphony will make its first public appearance of the season with the annual free Children's Concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 26, at the Schnormeier Event Center at Ariel-Foundation Park.
