Knox Coin Exchange, a local shop specializing in precious metals and collectibles, announced on May 13 that it will relocate from Mount Vernon to Fredericktown this summer. The business is temporarily closed while preparing its new location at 160 North Main Street in Fredericktown and expects to reopen in early July.

Owned by Jerrold Bolden, Knox Coin Exchange has served as a destination for gold, silver, coins, currency, and collectibles in Knox County for many years. Bolden purchased the business six years ago after working as an assistant production manager for a Honda supplier for 25 years. The shop specializes in buying and selling gold and silver coins, estate jewelry, vintage currency, antiques, and collectibles.

Bolden said his interest in coin collecting began at age three when his father and grandfather introduced him to the hobby. "A lot of people have items tucked away in basements, attics, jewelry boxes, or old collections and don’t realize they may have real value," according to Jerrold Bolden. "I enjoy helping people uncover that value, whether it’s through coins, silver, gold, or collectibles. I also believe in educating people about precious metals and tangible assets that can help protect against inflation and economic uncertainty. For me, it’s not just about buying and selling — it’s about helping people."

The move is intended to improve convenience and accessibility for customers. "This move is really about convenience and accessibility for our customers," according to Bolden. "We’ve appreciated our years in Mount Vernon, but traffic and parking challenges downtown have become increasingly difficult for many people visiting the shop. Fredericktown gives us an opportunity to create a more customer-friendly experience while staying right here in Knox County." He added that the new location will allow expansion of community engagement efforts such as educational events focused on gold and silver collecting.

"Gold and silver have become topics of growing interest for many people," according to Bolden. "Some customers are longtime collectors, while others are simply looking to learn more about tangible assets and precious metals. We want Knox Coin Exchange to be a welcoming place for both." Updates on the move will be posted on the business's Facebook page beginning late June; appointments can be requested by calling 740-627-1524 during the closure period.
