The Ohio Department of Commerce Division of State Fire Marshal and the Ohio Department of Public Safety Division of EMS will honor two individuals from Central Ohio at the 45th annual Ohio Fire Service Hall of Fame & Awards on May 12. The ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. inside Gallery I at COSI, located at 333 W. Broad St. in downtown Columbus.

This annual event recognizes members of Ohio’s fire service for their bravery, commitment, and sacrifice on behalf of communities throughout the state.

Brandon Myhan, of Newark, will receive the Ohio Fire Service Citizens Award for rescuing three people from a burning home in Newark in August 2025. According to the announcement, Myhan helped two children who were trapped on a porch roof and re-entered the smoke-filled home without protective gear to save an elderly man who was trapped inside.

William Ross, of Blacklick, will receive the Ohio Fire Educator Lifetime Achievement Award. For nearly four decades, Ross has advanced fire service education and improved operational practices throughout Ohio. The announcement describes him as a respected instructor, mentor, and subject matter expert who has helped shape high-rise procedures, improve apparatus design, and teach firefighters nationwide through continuing education.

Myhan and Ross are among 21 honorees statewide recognized in categories including Citizens Award; Fire Service Valor Award; Distinguished Service Award; Instructor of the Year; Prevention Educator of the Year; Officer of the Year; Educator Lifetime Achievement Award; and Department of the Year. Media availability for presenters and honorees will follow immediately after the ceremony during a post-event reception.

The Division of State Fire Marshal is part of the Ohio Department of Commerce. More information about its activities can be found on the organization's website.
