McDonald’s in Mount Vernon transformed its latest product launch into a community celebration, welcoming residents to a First Sip event that introduced six specialty beverages.

Mount Vernon Mayor Matthew Starr attended the event, joining community members as McDonald’s unveiled its new specialty drink lineup. The occasion drew enthusiastic fans eager to explore drinks that combine bold flavors with playful textures such as freeze‑dried fruit, popping boba, and velvety cold foam.

The tasting party highlighted the strong connection McDonald’s customers have with the brand’s beverages. From the cult following of Sprite® and Diet Coke® to the nostalgia that brought Hi‑C® Orange Lavaburst back to menus, drinks have long been part of McDonald’s identity. Beginning May 6, that tradition expands with three new Refreshers and three crafted sodas available nationwide.

Guests at the Mount Vernon event enjoyed the Strawberry Watermelon Refresher, a lemonade‑based drink with freeze‑dried strawberries; the Mango Pineapple Refresher, featuring tropical fruit flavors and strawberry popping boba; and the Blackberry Passion Fruit Refresher, which pairs bold fruit notes with dragon fruit inclusions. On the soda side, the Sprite® Berry Blast added blue raspberry syrup and cold foam to the iconic lemon‑lime base, while the Orange Dream offered a creamy twist on Hi‑C® Orange Lavaburst with vanilla and foam.

Alyssa Buetikofer, Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer for McDonald’s USA, emphasized the company’s focus on elevating everyday moments. “Our fans have an obsession with beverages – to them, drinks are more than just drinks. And soon, our beverages won’t just be a reason you come to McDonald’s, they’ll be the reason,” she said in a press release shared with Mount Vernon News.

The First Sip party underscored that message, giving the community a chance to connect over new flavors while reinforcing McDonald’s role as a gathering place. With more than 610 locations across Ohio and nearly 14,000 nationwide, the company aims to deliver consistency and creativity in every sip.

For Mount Vernon residents, the event was more than a tasting—it was a chance to share excitement, swap reactions, and celebrate a new chapter in McDonald’s beverage story. As the drinks roll out across the country, the Golden Arches hopes the buzz that started in local communities will ripple nationwide, making these specialty beverages a lasting part of the McDonald’s experience.

The local McDonald's store is located at 111 Newark Rd, Mount Vernon.
