Mount Vernon Nazarene University's men's basketball team faced a challenging game against Huntington University on January 28 at Ariel Arena. The Cougars, with a record of 12-9 overall and 4-7 in the Crossroads League, were unable to overcome the Foresters, who hold a 16-5 overall record and 7-4 in the league.

The game began with Huntington scoring first, but Trent Koning quickly responded with one of his seven three-pointers. Despite efforts from players like Abib Abib and Reed Platfoot, Huntington maintained a lead throughout the first half, going into halftime ahead by 12 points at 45-33.

In the second half, Mount Vernon Nazarene attempted to close the gap with contributions from Peyton Heiss and more three-pointers from Koning. However, Huntington extended their lead to as much as 14 points before MVNU narrowed it down to four points late in the game. Ultimately, Huntington secured an 81-74 victory.

Koning led all scorers with 28 points, while Platfoot added 15 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Heiss contributed a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Despite losing the game, MVNU won the rebounding battle against Huntington.

Coach Ronai commented on the physical nature of the game: "Another physical, hard-fought Crossroads League game. Proud of our group for hanging in. They are doing a lot of good things." He acknowledged Huntington's strengths and expressed optimism about his team's development: "Our young group has to continue to learn and get better."

Looking ahead, Mount Vernon Nazarene will travel to Spring Arbor University for their next match on January 31.
