East Knox Local Schools has announced the retirement of Tom Holton, its longtime agriculture science teacher and FFA advisor.

Holton is retiring after four decades in the classroom. He began teaching in 1982 and has spent 43 of his 44 years at East Knox High School.

His tenure was marked by a deep commitment to vocational agriculture, hands-on learning, and character development. Under his leadership, East Knox FFA students competed at local, state, and national levels in Career Development Events, public speaking, and soil judging, often earning top honors.

Beyond curriculum, Holton emphasized life skills: responsibility, respect, and excellence. His influence extended far beyond the classroom, shaping the personal and professional paths of countless students.

Earlier this year, Holton was named the 2024–25 Ohio Agricultural Educator of the Year and received the prestigious Golden Owl Award at the Ohio FFA Convention. The honor celebrates outstanding educators who have made significant contributions to agricultural instruction and student success.

In an interview with Ohio’s Country Journal and Ohio Ag Net, Holton said he considers teaching “the greatest job in the world.”

As Holton steps away from teaching, East Knox celebrates not only his years of service but the legacy he leaves behind.  Friends, family, colleagues, and former students gathered to honor a career marked by dedication and mentorship.

The East Knox community honored him with congratulations and thanks for his many contributions to East Knox and FFA, along with best wishes for a happy, well-deserved retirement.
