Mount Vernon Nazarene University will host the 2025 Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) District 10 Honor Bands event on December 6. The gathering will include over 200 middle and high school musicians from Ashland, Coshocton, Delaware, Holmes, Knox, Licking, Morrow, and Richland counties. Nearly 60 schools are participating in this educational and performance-focused day.

The schedule includes morning instruction for both bands and concludes with a free public concert at 3:30 p.m. in the R.R. Hodges Chapel/Auditorium. Students must be nominated by their director to join the OMEA Honors Band. High school students also need to audition with scales and an etude excerpt. Selected students participate in a rehearsal the week before the event.

Guest clinician Scott A. Jones from The Ohio State University will work with the high school band. Jones is known for his interdisciplinary teaching approach involving visual artists, composers, and other creatives. He frequently conducts all-state and honor bands internationally.

Dr. Ishbah Cox will lead the middle school band as a clinician. With over two decades of experience in education and conducting, Dr. Cox is currently directing wind ensembles at Capital University.

Mount Vernon Nazarene University is a private Christian institution offering undergraduate and graduate programs to around 2,200 students from various states and countries.
