Knox County Job & Family Services (KCJFS) has issued an alert to inform recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) about a potential disruption in their November 2025 benefits. The interruption is due to the federal government shutdown, which has resulted in a lack of approved funding for SNAP benefits for that month. If the funding lapse continues, recipients will not receive their benefits on their SNAP EBT cards.

KCJFS is monitoring the situation closely and will provide updates as they become available. Information can be found on their Facebook page.

For those affected by this potential disruption, several food pantries and services are available in Knox County. The ACTS/Seventh Day Adventist Food Pantry operates on Thursdays from 12 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., requiring proof of residency and income for eligibility once per month. The Salvation Army offers assistance Monday through Friday during specified hours, while the First Church of the Nazarene provides services on the third Saturday of each month.

Other resources include the Center of Hope, which requires appointments for food assistance, and various churches offering free hot meals throughout Mount Vernon each day of the week.
