Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) has reported significant growth in enrollment numbers and an increase in engagement with Nazarene churches across the East Central field since 2023.

The university saw its total enrollment rise by 24.21 percent, with Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) students increasing from 1,789 in fall 2023 to 2,146 in fall 2025. This increase is attributed to MVNU’s focus on Christ-centered education and the strengthening of partnerships with local Nazarene congregations.

One of the most notable developments is within MVNU’s College of Adult and Professional Studies (CAPS). In fall 2025, CAPS enrollment reached 993 students, marking the highest non-traditional student count since 2013. This figure represents a 68 percent jump from the fall 2023 CAPS enrollment of 591 students.

“We are excited for the enrollment growth we are experiencing within the College of Adult and Professional Studies programs,” said Johnna K. Vanover, MOL, Vice President for University Marketing and CAPS Enrollment, Chief Marketing Officer. “We’ve been working very hard to start new programs, improve our marketing performance and strengthen partnerships throughout the state and our community.”

The university’s relationship with Nazarene churches has also grown stronger. For this year’s incoming freshman class, Nazarene students made up 35 percent of new enrollees, reflecting ongoing trust from families within the denomination.

“Since assuming the presidency in October 2023, our leadership team has been deeply committed to intentional strategies that foster enrollment growth, particularly within the Nazarene student community,” said Dr. Carson Castleman, President of MVNU. “Equally important has been our effort to strengthen relationships with local Nazarene churches throughout the East Central field. Our mission is clear — to ensure that our churches recognize MVNU, not only as an academic institution, but also as a ministry partner in the discipleship and development of their students.”

Annual contributions from churches have increased by about 19 percent since 2023. The university attributes this financial support to continued commitment from the denomination toward Christian higher education.

“It is our firm conviction that MVNU serves as a vital ministry within the Nazarene denomination, and we are honored to carry forward this mission with dedication and humility,” Dr. Castleman added. “As we move forward, we remain steadfast in our commitment to serving the Nazarene Church with excellence and heartfelt devotion.”

While maintaining its ties to its denominational roots, MVNU states it remains open to students from all backgrounds.

“We want any student — no matter their religious affiliation — to have access to MVNU,” said Dr. Castleman. “It is our mission as a Christian University to shape lives by educating the whole person and cultivating Christlikeness for lifelong learning and service.”
