The Look Up Center will hold its Annual Coat Drive on Friday, Oct. 18, from  9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at its facility on 50 O'Bannon Ave. in Newark, offering free coats, hats, and gloves to Licking County residents in need as colder weather approaches.

Each individual must be present to receive one coat, as the center aims to ensure everyone in the community stays warm this winter. The annual giveaway has become a local tradition that combines charity and community spirit.

Organized by the Look Up Center, the event draws dozens of volunteers who help prepare and distribute hundreds of winter essentials each year.

"Many hands make light work, and this event is so fulfilling!" the organizers urged in their announcement, calling for more helping hands in the days leading up to the drive.

Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks beginning as early as Wednesday, Oct. 8, including setting up tables and racks, sorting and hanging coats, and preparing the gym for distribution day. Shifts are available through Friday, Oct. 17, with additional opportunities to assist during and after the giveaway.

Those interested in volunteering or spreading the word are encouraged to contact the center directly or send a message through its social media channels, or call 740-345-6026.

"Please send us a DM if you, a group you know, or even your church would like to participate! Please share this for us as well if you could!" the organizers posted on Facebook.

Scott and Bernice Hayes established the organization in 2004, and for more than 20 years, it has been a source of Christ-centered love and support for the people of Licking County—offering education, encouragement, and care.
