The Granville Center for the Arts will host a free, drop-in Painting & Drawing Club on Tuesday, Oct. 21, from 7 to 8 p.m. at 119 West Broadway, Granville. The event, open to all ages and skill levels, is an opportunity for artists and art enthusiasts to enjoy a relaxed evening of creativity and connection.
Led by Julie York, a local artist and high school educator, the one-hour session will feature hands-on guidance in acrylic and oil painting techniques, color theory, brushwork, and composition. The Granville Center will provide essential art materials, including paints, brushes, paper, and mini canvases; however, attendees are encouraged to bring their own sketchbooks or preferred tools.
"Unleash your inner artist at Painting & Drawing Club on Tuesday, October 21 from 7–8 PM," Granville Center for the Arts announced on Facebook. "With supplies ready and local artist Julie York leading the way, this drop-in club is about joy, creativity, and making something together."
York, who teaches English Language Arts to grades 9 through 12, is pursuing her Master’s in Art Education while nurturing a deep passion for community arts. She draws inspiration from her family and the students she mentors, believing that art can serve as both a form of personal expression and social connection.
The Painting & Drawing Club is part of the center's ongoing initiative to make creative experiences accessible to the local community. Whether a beginner picking up a brush for the first time or an experienced artist looking for inspiration, participants will find a welcoming space to learn, share, and grow.
The Granville Center for the Arts partners with local schools, businesses, and civic organizations to expand access to the arts. It hosts public performances, gallery exhibitions, and community events that celebrate local talent and bring neighbors together.
