Caleb Shriver, the regional liaison for Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, met with the Knox County Board of Commissioners on October 2. The purpose of his visit was to introduce himself and discuss his role in supporting businesses and elections within the county.
"We give commendations to new businesses, whether they're starting a business or for opening a new location for their business," Shriver said during the meeting, as captured in a video recording. "And then I also do a lot with the boards of elections."
According to information from the Ohio Secretary of State's Office website, LaRose acts as Ohio's chief elections officer. His office is responsible for campaign finance compliance, which involves candidates filing campaign finance reports. Additionally, political action committees, state political parties, and legislative caucus campaign committees submit reports to this office. It also authorizes companies to operate in Ohio by approving articles of incorporation and filings from limited partnerships and limited liability companies.
Shriver praised the Knox County Board of Elections' performance during the meeting. He expressed appreciation from the Secretary of State's Office for their efforts, particularly in acquiring a new mobile voting unit. The Public Integrity Division planned to visit Knox County to inspect this unit. Shriver acknowledged that recruiting precinct election officials and poll workers can be challenging annually, especially during smaller elections due to lower public awareness. However, Commissioner Bill Pursell noted that Knox County had a waiting list for poll workers at the last election.
Shriver also collaborates with the Knox Chamber of Commerce and attends ribbon cuttings and other events. The Secretary of State's Office recognizes new businesses with commendations for choosing Ohio as their base and for establishing new locations.
