Jan Jones has joined the Knox Learning Center as a high school teacher, expressing enthusiasm for her new position. Jones, originally from Mount Gilead, holds a bachelor’s degree in business education from Ashland University and a master’s in special education from Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
After spending 30 years in private industry management, Jones retired but later returned to work out of concern for children. Her teaching experience includes working with students ranging from those identified as talented and gifted to those with autism at the Midwest Regional ESC in Bellefontaine, as well as teaching for the last decade through the Delaware Area Career Center.
“I am ready for a change and excited to put my talents to work in a new environment,” Jones wrote in her application.
Jones explained her motivation for returning to teaching: “I am very glad to be here at the Learning Center. I’m doing this after my initial retirement because I care about kids. Without a diploma, they face a long, hard road.”
She noted that before joining the Knox Learning Center, she was aware that many students there deal with challenges that make success in traditional school settings difficult.
“They need to be shown that they are capable, that they can succeed,” Jones said. “Little by little, I am gaining their confidence.”
