Angela Arbogast has started her new role working with elementary students at the Knox Learning Center in Mount Vernon. Arbogast, who graduated from East Knox High School, brings both personal and professional experience to her position.
She described how her life has been shaped by raising her son, now 21 years old. “He was active and intelligent. I even referred to him as ‘little Einstein,’” she said. “Then just before he turned 4 he became autistic and non-verbal. He has remained that way. His autism is a mystery.”
Arbogast holds a bachelor’s degree in 1-8 education from Ashland University and a master’s degree in education from Bowling Green State University. Her career includes time as a school behavioral health teacher for the ESC in the late 1990s, followed by four years teaching students with specific learning disabilities at East Knox.
Her combined experiences inform her approach to teaching at the center. “We are building structure in the classroom, learning rules and behavior expectations,” she said. “I try to be very proactive and work with the children one-on-one when necessary.
“There are special challenges, but I don’t give up easily.”
