Mount Vernon secured a 24-7 victory over Newark on Friday night, relying heavily on a robust ground game and a formidable defense.

According to the game statistics, the Fighting Jackets dominated from the outset, amassing 294 total yards compared to Newark's 119. Mount Vernon executed 59 plays, including 50 rushing attempts that resulted in 252 yards. In contrast, Newark managed only 33 plays and 55 rushing yards.

Quarterback Mason Richards played a pivotal role in the offense with his dual-threat capabilities. He has accumulated 147 passing yards and 210 rushing yards on 43 carries this season, providing consistent output for Mount Vernon. Wide receiver Dammon Wolfe has also become a reliable option, securing five receptions for 58 yards.

On the defensive side, Mount Vernon effectively stifled Newark’s passing efforts, holding the Wildcats to just 64 passing yards on eight completions out of 21 attempts. The Jackets forced three interceptions and restricted Newark to only five first downs. Additionally, they successfully converted four out of five fourth-down attempts, which helped sustain crucial drives.

Despite being penalized 11 times for a total of 72 yards, Mount Vernon maintained control throughout the contest. By efficiently running the ball and capitalizing on turnovers, they emerged with a decisive win.
