The Danville Blue Devils inaugurated a new chapter on Friday night with a successful scrimmage at Tough Street Stadium, marking the debut of the school's newly installed turf field.
According to Athletic Director Jill Lyons, the event was made possible through the hard work and dedication of numerous community members. The turf committee, which led the project, received praise for its vision and countless volunteer hours spent ensuring every detail was ready for opening night.
Special thanks were extended to Coach Blum for preparing and organizing the field, Doug and Miriah Hawk for last-minute cleanup before gates opened, and Paul Vess for announcing and providing food for officials.
Destiney Newell and her family managed to open and run the concession stand on short notice, assisted by Ann Henry. The chain gang provided on-field support, while Scott Mickey and Leo Mickley ensured fans near and far could enjoy video coverage.
Additional recognition was given to Luke Baer and staff, Jason Snively, Tony Mickley, Thomas Hawk, and Lanna Staats for their flexibility and assistance in various last-minute duties. "It takes a village, and we live in the best one around," Lyons said. "If you haven’t checked out Tough Street Stadium, you should."
