Mount Vernon Nazarene University has announced the appointment of Dr. Carol Matthews as the new Executive Director for Foundational Learning and Retention. This role reflects the university's commitment to academic excellence and student growth within a Christ-centered community.
Dr. Matthews has over three decades of experience in higher education, including previous leadership roles at MVNU from 1999 to 2012. "Dr. Matthews brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record in student success initiatives," said MVNU President Dr. Carson Castleman.
Expressing her enthusiasm, Dr. Matthews stated, “The MVNU community has incredibly strong and Christ-centered networks that have been a source of tremendous enrichment to my life."
In her new position, Dr. Matthews will lead various programs aimed at enhancing student success and retention, including the Center for Student Success and MVNU’s IGNITE Program for students with intellectual disabilities.
“We hope to build upon the MVNU academic vision by emphasizing that Student Success is not just a means for students to gain higher Grade Point Averages," she said.
Dr. Matthews holds an Ed.D. in Educational Psychology from Baylor University and has held various roles at institutions such as Asbury Theological Seminary and Toccoa Falls College.
“Dr. Matthews’ strategic approach to enhancing student retention and engagement will undoubtedly benefit our campus community,” added Dr. Castleman.
