Newark City Schools is offering a 2025 Kindergarten Readiness Academy (KRA)—a four-week summer program created to help incoming kindergarten students prepare for the transition to school. The program is open to children who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 30, and who are registered to attend kindergarten with Newark City Schools this fall.

The academy will run on July 7, 8, 9, 10; July 14, 15, 16, 17; July 21, 22, 23, 24; and July 28, 29, 30, 31, meeting four days a week. Participating students will receive breakfast and a lunchtime snack each day.

It will be held at multiple elementary buildings in Newark City Schools, with session times varying slightly by location. Students can attend at Ben Franklin, Carson, Cherry Valley, or John Clem Elementary Schools, where sessions will run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.. Alternatively, students assigned to Hillview, Legend, or McGuffey Elementary Schools will attend from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Each location will follow the same engaging curriculum and daily routine, including breakfast and a lunchtime snack. Parents should register their child based on their assigned elementary school building.

To participate, your child must first be registered for kindergarten with Newark City Schools. If you haven’t completed registration yet, please contact Eileen Atwell at 740-670-7008 or eatwell@newarkcityschools.org.
