Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) and Africa Nazarene University (ANU) have initiated an academic exchange program that began in the fall. This partnership saw students from both institutions experience life and studies on different continents. MVNU hosted Robert Moinket Mutarakwa and Kessy Kheityna Ishimwe, while Dominic Rose traveled to Nairobi, Kenya.

Robert Moinket Mutarakwa, a 41-year-old law student from ANU, reflected on his transformative journey at MVNU. Born into the Maasai tribe in Kenya, Robert was involved in a legal battle over his late father's estate, which inspired him to study law. "I've been in court countless times," he said, emphasizing his desire to understand the justice system better. During his time in the U.S., Robert learned about American law and observed a presidential election, gaining insights into international relations. He valued the spiritual environment at MVNU, noting how it reinforced his Christian beliefs.

Kessy Kheityna Ishimwe, originally from Burundi and studying Environmental Natural Resource Management at ANU, faced initial challenges adapting to life in the U.S. She noted differences between her field of study back home and environmental biology at MVNU. Despite initial uncertainties, she found support among other international students and appreciated the cultural exchange experience.

Dominic Rose embarked on his journey to Kenya as part of an exchange program focusing on Peace and Conflict Studies. Encouraged by Dr. Thad Hicks of MVNU's Emergency Management department, Dominic embraced cultural differences and gained new perspectives through interactions with students from various African countries. His experience highlighted Kenya's tribal diversity and provided valuable insights for his future career aspirations in counterterrorism or humanitarian aid.

This academic exchange has offered participants opportunities for personal growth and cross-cultural understanding. The experiences shared by Robert, Kessy, and Dominic illustrate the potential impact of global engagement programs on students' lives.
