MVNU honors retirees with over 170 combined years of service

Mount Vernon Nazarene University recently honored the retirements of seven faculty and staff members, marking a collective service of over 170 years. Among those retiring are Dr. Colleen Bryan, Dr. Paul Madtes Jr., Professor John Donnelly, Dr. Yvonne Schultz, Jeanna Howald, Wendi Lahmon, and Thomas McCoy.

Dr. Colleen Bryan has been with MVNU's Psychology Department since 1989, contributing significantly to student development and academic excellence through various roles including Assistant Professor and Professor. She holds advanced degrees in Organizational Psychology and Counseling.

Dr. Paul Madtes Jr., a key figure in the Biology program for 36 years, has inspired many students towards careers in science and healthcare with his passion for biological sciences.

Professor John Donnelly has served the Art Department for 36 years as well. Known for his abstract artworks and public murals around Mount Vernon, he has enriched both the university's cultural landscape and that of the local community.

Dr. Yvonne Schultz joined MVNU in 2000 and held multiple leadership roles including Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs. Her work has been pivotal in shaping academic programs at the university.

Jeanna Howald retires after leading the women's softball team to numerous victories over her 36-year career as Head Coach. She achieved significant accolades including being named Coach of the Year several times across different conferences.

Wendi Lahmon was recognized for her 30 years as Administrative Assistant to the Vice President for Student Life, providing steadfast support to student life operations.

Thomas McCoy contributed 11 years as Housekeeper/Custodian ensuring campus facilities were well-maintained.

“This year we bid farewell to a remarkable group of individuals who have dedicated their time talents and passion to MVNU,” said Dr. Carson Castleman, MVNU President. “Their commitment to excellence in teaching and service has left a lasting mark on our community and they will be greatly missed by many.”
