Mount Vernon Nazarene University inducts new members into nursing honor society

Mount Vernon Nazarene University recently announced the induction of nine nursing students into the Rho Nu at-Large Chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. The ceremony was held at the R.R. Hodges Chapel Auditorium on campus.

Sigma Theta Tau International is recognized globally as the leading honor society for nursing. This organization honors excellence in nursing scholarship and leadership. The Rho Nu at-Large Chapter is a combined chapter of Mount Vernon Nazarene University and Ashland University, established on April 20, 2002. This year, 16 nursing students were inducted, recognized for their academic excellence, clinical skills, and leadership in nursing.

Dr. Judy Gregg, Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences, commended the students, stating, "This is a prestigious honor, highlighting the individual’s dedication to advancing the field of nursing through scholarship, research, and service." She further added, "The department is incredibly proud of these deserving students who have been inducted into the society. The induction is not only a recognition of their past achievements, but also a testament to their future potential as leaders in nursing.”

Sigma Theta Tau International was founded in 1922 by six nursing students. It now boasts over 100,000 active members and 600 chapters across various countries including Armenia, Australia, Botswana, Thailand, the United States, and Wales. Members of Sigma are varied, including clinical nurses, administrators, academic nurse educators, researchers, policymakers, and entrepreneurs, united by the organization's vision of empowering nurse leaders to transform global healthcare.
