The East Knox FFA of East Knox Local Schools announced that four of its members participated in the State Environmental/Natural Resources Career Development Event on April 11, securing seventh place among teams from Ohio. The announcement was made in a press release.

According to the East Knox FFA, the team competed in the event, placing seventh out of teams from across Ohio. Team members Aiden Kapper, Mackenzie Wilson, Ava Page, and Miranda Fawcett participated in this event, with Aiden placing third and Ava finishing fifth individually. The contest required students to advance through two preliminary rounds to qualify for the finals, where they tested their knowledge and skills in environmental management.

The event involved three phases: a written exam on environmental and natural resources, identifying specimens, and a data analysis practicum. The second phase required the students to give a Zoom presentation on "Soil Health," which they did for eight minutes and answered questions from judges. The team scored the fifth highest in their presentation, showcasing their ability to effectively communicate complex topics. The final phase included fieldwork, where they conducted various environmental analyses, including water testing, soil analysis, and macroinvertebrate identification.

The Environmental/Natural Resources Career Development Event aims to evaluate students' knowledge in environmental management, with final scores determined by performance across all three phases. East Knox FFA has consistently performed well in the event, placing in the top ten almost every year since its inception in 2007, including winning the event in 2021. This year, the team will receive a plaque for their seventh-place finish, with Aiden Kapper and Ava Page being recognized for their top-ten individual performances.

East Knox Local School District is located in Howard, Ohio. It is home to the East Knox FFA Chapter which supports student development through agricultural education and leadership opportunities. The chapter recognizes achievements such as American and State Degrees and is led by a 2024-2025 officer team including Dylan Springer as President and Hayden Baker as Vice President. The chapter also organizes events like fruit and strawberry sales to support its activities.
