Brian W. Dodd has returned to lead the East Knox Bands of Pride after a decades-long retirement, and the bands have responded with success. Several members have been selected as part of the Ohio Music Education Association District Ten Honor Bands.
According to the East Knox Local School District Spring newsletter, Dodd came out of retirement to lead the band, having previously served as band director from 1985 until 1999. His return was marked by reverting to the nickname "Band of Pride." The school's Pep Band also made a comeback after several years, performing at basketball games and hosting an Alumni Pep Band for one game. The Band of Pride performed at various events including all football games, the Mount Vernon Band Festival, Ashland University Band Festival, pep rallies, East Knox Opening Day Staff Breakfast, Apple Valley Family Palooza, Bladensburg Christmas Parade, East Knox Veteran Day Assembly, Devil Dog Parade & Bonfire, and other community and school events.
The newsletter reports that students picked for the Junior High Honor Band were Kierra Goheen (flute), James Keith (alto saxophone), and Aubrey Francis (alto saxophone). High School Honor Band students selected were Hayden Priest (clarinet) and Ryan Peck (alto saxophone). These high school students were also chosen as members of the 2024 All Ohio State Fair Band last summer.
The newsletter states that Jr./Sr. High School Band and Choir performed seasonal concerts to showcase their concert skills. Fifth and sixth-grade bands have been rehearsing early mornings with Dodd.
According to the newsletter, the Spring Concert is scheduled for 7 p.m. on May 8, featuring performances from all bands from grades 5-12. This event will be combined with the Jr./Sr. High School Art Show, with art being presented in the cafeteria before and during the concert.
