East Knox FFA participated in the State Wildlife Management Career Development Event on March 29 at Hocking College in Nelsonville. The team secured the 35th position among teams from across Ohio. The team members included sophomores Ava Page and Miranda Fawcett, along with freshman Wyatt Baker.
In this event, participants were required to identify 100 specimens of various wildlife categories such as mammals, game birds, fish, food and cover plants, reptiles and amphibians, and equipment. Additionally, they completed three practicums focusing on pond management, gun laws and safety, and habitat management. A general information test on wildlife management was also part of the competition.
The event aims to encourage education in fish and wildlife management while recognizing those who have shown skills and competencies through natural resources instruction. Awards are given to the top-ten teams and individuals in the state. Although East Knox FFA did not reach the top ten this year, they have achieved this distinction ten times in previous years.
