Mount Vernon Nazarene University Theatre is set to present the musical "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" from March 27-30. The production is based on Roald Dahl’s classic story and will be held at the Thorne Performance Hall in the R.R. Hodges Chapel/Fine Arts Center.
The play features Tyler Maddux as Willy Wonka and Madigan Kennedy as Charlie Bucket, alongside a cast that includes Josiah Holloway, Kyra Bradshaw, Kara Jenkins, and Caleb D’Imperio as other contest winners. The production is directed by Sydney Moon with assistance from Zane Menzie, music direction by Sabina Anderson, choreography by Michelle Taylor, and technical direction by Bryson McVay.
Sydney Moon expressed her excitement about the show: “Theatre creates a strong community, fosters a space for creativity and talents to blossom, and strengthens social and emotional skills for everyone involved.” She added that one of her main goals was to enhance MVNU's theatre program with higher-end productions.
The show will run from Thursday through Saturday at 7:00 p.m., with a Sunday matinee at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are available online. Note that some scenes may be intense for younger children or sensitive viewers.
The production is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
