The Fredericktown Freddies secured a place in the District Championship following a decisive 40-20 victory over the Northridge Vikings on February 19.
According to reports, Fredericktown established dominance early in the game through aggressive defense and effective rebounding. Cally Carpenter spearheaded the Freddies' offense, contributing 12 points with a shooting record of 5-of-16 from the field. Her performance was complemented by five rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Mya Bryant also made significant contributions with a double-double, recording 10 points and 12 rebounds, along with three steals.
Despite achieving only a 30 percent shooting accuracy from the field, Fredericktown capitalized on second-chance opportunities and maintained strong defensive play. The team outperformed Northridge in rebounds with a count of 33-21, thereby restricting the Vikings' scoring chances. Northridge faced challenges from beyond the arc, converting just one out of fifteen three-point attempts for a mere seven percent success rate.
Fredericktown head coach Jared Pryor commented on the team's performance: "We just battled. It was an ugly game, but sometimes you have to be able to win ugly," he said. Pryor expressed pride in his players' resilience during the match.
With this victory, Fredericktown advances to face Africentric in the District Championship scheduled for Saturday at 3:30 p.m., hosted at Ohio Dominican University. The Freddies aim to maintain their momentum as they pursue a district title and progress further into the postseason.
