Mt. Vernon Yellow Jackets emerged victorious against the Springboro Panthers with a 2-0 win on Sunday, March 23, 2025, in a game marked by strong pitching and timely hitting.

According to the game report, Jocelyn Scarbury delivered an outstanding performance on the mound for Mt. Vernon, achieving a complete-game shutout. She allowed only four hits, struck out 13 batters, and issued two walks. The Yellow Jackets capitalized on opportunities in the second and fourth innings to secure their victory.

One of the pivotal moments came from Gabby Beck of Mt. Vernon, who hit a crucial triple. "The triple by Gabby Beck was a big moment for a first-year varsity player," said Mt. Vernon head coach Ryan Pentz.

Beck concluded the game with two hits in two at-bats and scored both runs for Mt. Vernon. Rylee Myers contributed with a hit, while Mea Joyner and Hailey Rudrick added pressure on Springboro's defense with stolen bases.

Springboro's pitcher Jonas also delivered a commendable performance, pitching six innings and allowing three hits, two runs (one earned), and three walks while striking out six batters. "Springboro’s pitcher is committed to D2 Hillsdale, and she was able to do some things to keep our hitters off balance," Pentz said. "We had some great quality at-bats that made her work."

Defensively, Springboro struggled with three errors during the game, whereas Mt. Vernon maintained clean fielding throughout.

With this win, Mt. Vernon demonstrated its capability to perform under pressure, while Springboro aims to improve its offensive strategies in future games.
