The 43rd anniversary of the Food For The Hungry Drive has successfully brought together Knox County residents, businesses, schools, and organizations to combat food insecurity. As of December 23, 2024, the event has raised a total of $313,850.71 along with 11 truckloads of food, surpassing its goal of $330,000.
Volunteers collected food and monetary donations at 12 collection points on December 13th, while local media produced the Food For The Hungry LIVE event, a seven-hour broadcast. The initiative featured 16 different food assistance organizations, each receiving a Winter Grant totaling $35,500 to support local food initiatives, from food pantries to weekend meal assistance for students.
Schools in the area played a crucial role, with Psi Iota Xi Sorority leading the Knox County Elementary School collection, which gathered $14,537.29 and 7,773 food items. Local high schools collectively raised $5,677.18 and 536 food items, while Mount Vernon Nazarene University contributed $8,306.17 along with various fundraising events.
The Kenyon Snowflake Gala also significantly boosted donations, raising $85,000, and honoring community service with awards presented to Joan Jones and Tom Stamp. Other community organizations and businesses contributed generously, with notable donations including $10,000 each from Ariel Corporation and Kokosing Inc.
The Food For The Hungry Service Club Competition raised $17,449, with the VFW Post #4027 emerging as the top club. Community events and local business support played a vital role in reaching the Drive’s goals.
