The Fredericktown Freddies secured their fifth victory of the season with a 64-50 win over the Danville Blue Devils in a competitive girls' basketball game on Thursday night.
"Mya [Bryant] and Ella [Bouton] also stepped up in key moments," said Fredericktown head coach Jared Pryor. "I was really impressed by our hot start to the game. However, we talked as a team about playing hard the whole game, regardless of the score. Happy with a conference win, but we will work as a team to finish games in the future."
Senior Cally Carpenter led the Freddies with an impressive performance, scoring 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting, including 1-of-3 from beyond the arc. Carpenter also contributed nine rebounds and three assists.
Junior Mya Bryant added 10 points, eight rebounds, and four assists despite experiencing difficulties with her shooting accuracy, finishing at just 31 percent from the field. Fellow junior Ella Bouton led the team in assists with seven while contributing nine points.
According to statistics from the game, the Freddies shot 45 percent from the field compared to Danville’s 38 percent and dominated in rebounding, out-rebounding the Blue Devils 35-20. With this win, Fredericktown improved their record to 5-1 for the season and will aim to maintain their strong performance when they host Mount Gilead on December 18.
