The Fredericktown Freddies secured a 64-50 victory over the Danville Blue Devils in a competitive girls’ basketball game Thursday night, improving their record to 5-1 on the season.
Fredericktown head coach Jared Pryor praised his team’s early energy but also stressed the importance of staying focused throughout the entire game. “I was really impressed by our hot start to the game,” he said. “Mya [Bryant] and Ella [Bouton] stepped up in key moments. We talked as a team about playing hard the whole game, regardless of the score. I’m happy with the conference win, but we will work as a team to finish games in the future.”
Senior Cally Carpenter played a pivotal role in the victory, leading the Freddies with 25 points. She shot an impressive 10-of-14 from the field, including 1-of-3 from three-point range, and also grabbed nine rebounds and recorded three assists. Carpenter’s performance was a key factor in Fredericktown’s strong start, as she was an offensive and defensive presence throughout the game.
Despite facing some shooting struggles, junior Mya Bryant contributed solidly in other areas. Bryant scored 10 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and handed out four assists. However, her shooting was off, finishing with just a 31 percent accuracy from the field. Bryant’s all-around play helped her stay involved even when shots weren’t falling.
Junior Ella Bouton also had a notable game, contributing nine points and leading the team with seven assists. Bouton’s court vision and playmaking ability helped set up her teammates, allowing the Freddies to find offensive rhythm even when individual shots were not always on target.
Fredericktown’s offensive efficiency, shooting 45 percent from the field, proved to be a decisive factor in the game. The Freddies were able to get quality shots off throughout the night, outpacing Danville, which shot just 38 percent. Additionally, Fredericktown dominated the rebounding battle, out-rebounding the Blue Devils 35-20, which helped limit Danville’s second-chance opportunities.
The Freddies also got significant contributions from other players, with solid defensive performances and key rebounds. While Fredericktown showed areas that needed improvement, particularly in finishing games, the team’s depth and team-oriented approach were evident in the win.
With their fifth win, the Freddies will look to continue their strong season when they host Mount Gilead on Dec. 18. Coach Pryor is optimistic about the team’s progress. “There are always areas to improve on, but I’m happy with the effort tonight,” he said. “We just have to keep building on this as we move forward.”
Fredericktown’s next game will be another crucial conference matchup as they aim to maintain their strong start to the season.
