The Knox County Beekeepers Association (KCBA) will offer an Advanced Beekeepers Class on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Mount Vernon Nazarene University. The class, designed for experienced beekeepers looking to refine their skills, will take place in Room 105 of Faculty Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with check-in beginning at 8:00 a.m. Attendees will enjoy coffee and donuts as they prepare for a morning of in-depth discussion and learning.
The course will cover key topics critical to successful beekeeping, including honey production, swarm control, requeening, and winter preparation and mite control programs. Since the class targets seasoned beekeepers, it will feature open discussions, encouraging participants to share their experiences and engage with fellow enthusiasts on these and other advanced topics.
Beekeeping is a lifelong learning process, requiring dedication and a commitment to understanding the complexities of hive management. Each hive presents unique challenges, and ongoing education allows beekeepers to build on their experience, embrace evolving practices, and improve their craft. The Advanced Beekeepers Class aims to provide attendees with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate these challenges effectively.
The registration fee for the class is $45, with a discounted rate of $25 for current KCBA members. Students can attend free of charge but must register and be accompanied by a registered adult. Youth scholarship opportunities are also available through KCBA, making the class accessible to aspiring young beekeepers and their families.
Preregistration is required, and spots are limited. Those interested are encouraged to register early by visiting www.knoxbees.com. For additional information, contact Jeff Gabric at (740) 760-0300.
