Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) has announced that Amy Flavin, a compliance specialist and designated school official for the International Executive Students program, is the recipient of the 2024 Board of Trustees Hospitality Award.
According to Jennifer Dean, director of Operations and Special Projects, "Amy’s knowledge and passion not only benefit the MVNU community, but they also greatly benefit our International Executive Studies program. She always goes above and beyond to ensure every student’s question is answered, and every need is met, all while having a smile on her face. She has a unique way of making each student feel heard and important, all at the same time," as said in an MVNU news release.
The Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees established this award to honor individuals who demonstrate outstanding hospitality and positively impact the university community. The criteria for the award include making a significant impact through consistent hospitality; demonstrating positive, respectful, and effective interactions with students, faculty, staff, and the public; and exhibiting professionalism, warmth, and a gracious attitude. The award is symbolized by the "Towel and Basin" statue, which serves as a reminder of servant-hearted hospitality that Flavin consistently demonstrates in her work at MVNU.
The news release further states that Flavin has been an integral member of the MVNU staff since October 2016. She has served in various roles within the Graduate and Professional Studies program before assuming her current position. Throughout her tenure, she has been recognized for her exceptional dedication to serving students and colleagues with hospitality and kindness.
In addition to Dean's comments, Becky Leija, director of IES Admissions and Flavin's supervisor, remarked that Flavin is quick to offer help to other team members and provides a listening ear as both colleague and friend. Leija said: "She has been a mighty prayer warrior for MVNU and routinely reminds our team members to pray."
