Habitat for Humanity of Knox County is set to host informational meetings on November 4, 5, and 6 for individuals interested in its homeownership program. These sessions will be conducted via Zoom and commence at 5:30 p.m.

According to a Facebook post by Habitat for Humanity, individuals partnering with the organization will receive support to achieve their goal of homeownership through an affordable mortgage. The meetings aim to provide details about the application process, program qualifications, and future building locations.

The post further explains that eligibility is determined based on three focus areas: the need for decent, affordable housing; the ability to pay a zero to low-interest mortgage; and a willingness to partner with Habitat. Applications will be available starting November 1 on the Habitat website (hfjknoxoh.org) and at its ReStore located at 13246 Wooster Road, Suite A, Mt. Vernon. The ReStore operates from Wednesday to Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Habitat also states that mortgage payments are cycled back into the community to fund more affordable housing projects. Applicants must meet an Area Median Income (AMI) range of 30-80%, with a debt-to-income ratio below 41%.

Potential homeowners are required to contribute hundreds of hours of "sweat equity" towards building their homes and those of others in the program. This commitment may include classes on personal finances, home maintenance, and other relevant topics. Prospective applicants might currently face challenges such as unhealthy or inadequate housing conditions, unaffordable rent, homes inaccessible due to disabilities, or damage from natural disasters.

Applications for Habitat for Humanity's homeownership program will be accepted from November 1 through December 2. More information can be found at www.hfhknoxoho.org/what-we-do.
