This November brings a chance for middle schoolers (grades 6-8) to have a sensory, hands-on science experience on Kenyon College’s campus. The Fall Science Saturday program (formerly BLAST off with ATHENAS) is back with the theme “Sounds of Science.” Students will create their own instruments, amplify their sounds and learn how our ears hear, all while having fun working together.
This program takes place on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Kenyon’s Science Quadrangle, 201 N. College Road in Gambier. Registration is now open on a first-come, first-served basis and will remain open until Nov. 1, unless all slots are filled earlier. This program is free for students and includes lunch and snacks. Each program includes multiple sessions where participants will play and explore with different experiments related to the day’s theme; these sessions are broken up by a snack break. After lunch, students participate in a larger group demonstration session, an activity and/or an “Ask-a-Scientist” Q&A with a professional scientist.
This program provides students with the opportunity to associate fun with science, be introduced to a community of scientists from all levels (including college and postgraduate), and gain exposure to fields of science and experiments not often taught at the middle or high school level.
