The Dogwood Blossoms Chorus, Mount Vernon’s local chapter of Sweet Adelines International™ will perform “Love in the Magic Queendom: A Rollercoaster Romance” on Sunday, Oct. 13, onstage at The Woodward Opera House. Doors open at 2 p.m., and the curtain rises at 3 p.m.

The Magic Queendom Amusement Park is a Halloween-style setting for this bewitchingly funny original musical, featuring the theatrical talents of the women’s barbershop chorus. Everyone is invited to spend an enchanting afternoon of “defying gravity,” and to watch love cast its spell on the dashing Billy and beautiful Bonnie when they meet at the Magic Queendom. But alas – someone wicked vows to keep the young couple apart! Can Bonnie’s co-workers weave some of “that old black magic” to bring about a happy ending? Or will Bonnie and Billy spend the rest of their lives being “bewitched, bothered and bewildered?”

Jeff Dolan, director of the Dogwood Blossoms, wrote the script for this year’s show, as well as the a capella arrangements for some of the show’s songs – many of which are tunes well known to the audience.

“Most people probably are not aware that there are words to the theme song of the original TV show, ‘Bewitched,’” said Dolan. “We think our audience will enjoy hearing us sing the words with the familiar melody.”

Special guests appearing in the show will include the award-winning Daybreak Quartet from Pittsburgh, PA, as well as young talent from Mount Vernon High School’s Choir and Chorale.

Venture to the Woodward Opera House in Mount Vernon’s revitalized downtown on Sunday, Oct. 13 and enjoy an afternoon bound to get you in the mood for the Halloween season. General admission seating. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students. Tickets for children 10 and under are free, but they must each have a ticket to see the show if they are sitting in their own seats. All areas of the Opera House are wheelchair accessible.
