Utica (0-1) led after the first quarter but was unable to sustain its momentum in a season-opening 21-6 loss to Centerburg.

Utica quarterback Hayden Piper hooked up with Gavin Tussey for a 43-yard strike to open the scoring, but it was an uphill climb from there for the Redskins.

Isiah Sule gave Centerburg the lead it would never relinquish on a 27-yard pass from quarterback Blaine Ball in the second quarter. 

After a scoreless third quarter, Centerburg (1-0) pulled away with two late touchdown.

Piper finished the contest 13-for-26 for 151 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions. including a late pick-six that sealed the game for Centerburg.
