September is Sepsis Awareness Month. | Knox Community Hospital

Knox Community Hospital is recognizing Sepsis Awareness Month during the month of September. Sepsis is your body’s overwhelming and toxic response to an infection. It kills over 350,000 adults in the U.S every year.

Sepsis is more likely to affect very young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, and those with weakened immune systems. Sepsis is an equal opportunity killer, affecting people of all ages and levels of health. When it comes to sepsis, we can use the phrase ‘It’s About TIME’ to help us watch for possible signs. Those include temperature, infection, mental decline, and someone becoming extremely ill. If any of these occur, call 911 or go to the hospital and say, “I am concerned about sepsis.”

Through public education, we can raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of sepsis so people in our communities know when to seek emergency care. To learn more, go to www.SepsisAwarenessMonth.org or https://www.kch.org/sepsis-medical-emergency.
