Mount Vernon Police find two people dead in apartment building

Mount Vernon Police Department officers discovered a man and a woman deceased inside a South Gay Street apartment building on August 14. Officers responded to a requested welfare check at approximately 10:02 p.m.

According to a Mount Vernon Police Department news release, once they arrived at the apartment building at 105 South Gay Street, the officers met the individuals who had requested the welfare check. Upon entering an apartment, they found an adult male and an adult female victim deceased. No one else was present in the residence, which was subsequently secured as a crime scene.

Mount Vernon Police detectives, along with investigators from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Knox County Coroner's Office, and the Knox County Prosecutor's Office were called to the scene.

The police chief stated in a news release that investigators believe this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community.

Additional details of the incident will be released as appropriate as the investigation continues. The victims will not be identified under the provisions of Ohio's Marsy's Law.
