After an extended illness, Carl Jay Miller, age 85, of Mount Vernon, OH passed away on May 29, 2024, at the home of his daughter & son-in-law in Mount Vernon, WA. Carl was the second of seven children. He was born on July 24, 1938, to Isaac William Burl Miller and Gertrude Earlene (Hawk) Miller.
Carl graduated from Howard High School in May 1956 and started work as a machinist at Cooper Bessemer Company, January 1957. He became a Journeyman tool maker, then a CNC machine programmer and was working as an expeditor in the machine shop when he retired October 2000 (from then Rolls-Royce). Carl married Georgia Mae McCune in Adrian Michigan December 2, 1957. She is the daughter of Forrest Glendon and Wilma Georgia (Briggs) McCune.
Carl & Georgia raised their three children in Millwood & in 1993 moved to Coshocton Road. Carl did carpentry work and had a passion for genealogy and playing euchre with anyone he could. Georgia canned produce from their large garden and worked as a hospice volunteer. In 2017, as her health deteriorated, they moved to the Living Center and in 2020, moved to Mount Vernon, WA where she passed away September 21, 2020.
Carl is survived by two sons, Charles A (Teresa) Miller of Valdosta, GA and Carl J Miller of Columbus, OH and one daughter, Cynthia J (Thomas) Grillot of Mount Vernon, WA. Carl & Georgia have seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Surviving brothers are Alvin Roy (Linda) of Mount Gilead & Thomas P (Sue) of Howard.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, father, mother, and sister; Anna Mae & her husband, Eugene Bennett, three brothers; Dwight (& wife Laura), Allen and James and two great-granddaughters; Alyssa Grillot & Zoey Fell.
Both Carl & Georgia will be interned at Danville Workman Cemetery August 8, 2024, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local hospice organization.
