MVNU's Hodkinson named CoSIDA Academic All-American First Team

Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s Evan Hodkinson was named CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team on July 10, after excelling in both his schoolwork and running track.

According to a release by MVNU, Hodkinson, who hails from Dalton, had a terrific junior season where he was also named NAIA All-America First Team. He was All-League in the 4x800 meters at the Crossroads League Indoor Championships, as well as winning the conference in the 1000 meters with a meet record time of 2:26.25. He was also named Most Outstanding Athlete of the meet.

Hodkinson was named an All-American at the NAIA Indoor National Championships when he was a national runner-up in the 1000 meters, clocking in at 2:25.30.

In the classroom, Hodkinson boasted a 3.94 GPA and is majoring in biology.

On June 24, Hodkinson was one of nine cross country and track athletes to make CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams. Men’s athletes included senior Micah Tuggle, junior Marcus Whaley, sophomore Mason Hendrickson and sophomore Tyler Shipley. Women athletes chosen are senior Rachel Wilson, junior Ellyn Coe, sophomore Brooke Holloway and sophomore Gracelyn Frame. 

Those awards were given to students who have a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, and are a sophomore or above. They were nominated by the Sports Information Department of MVNU. 

According to a release by MVNU, the cross country and track teams each had five nominations. Those selected advanced to the ballot for CSC Academic All-America, which Hodkinson received the nod for.
