The performance of Handel's Messiah by Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) will take place earlier than usual this year, on Sunday, Nov. 24 in the R.R. Hodges Chapel/Auditorium. The $10 tickets will go on sale in August.

"One of the many highlights is when, mid-way through the Hallelujah Chorus, I turn to conduct the audience and experience this unforgettable expression of worship of our King of Kings and Lord of Lords," said Robert Tocheff, who will be conducting the time-honored tradition for the 34th year, according to an MVNU news release.

According to the same news release, the performance traditionally has been held in early December. It kicks off the Christmas season, attracting local residents, alumni, and other visitors. Attendees experience the sound of the university's combined choirs, faculty, staff, alumni, community members, soloists, and chamber orchestra.

Rehearsals on Wednesdays begin on Sept. 25 from 4:40-5:40 p.m., according to MVNU. They will be held in Nease Rehearsal Hall in the R.R. Hodges Chapel and Fine Arts Building. New singers should contact Tocheff about an audition or a recommendation at bob.tocheff@mvnu.edu.

This will be MVNU's 56th presentation of Handel's Messiah. The department seeks sponsors who want to invest in the future of the Messiah presentation and in the MVNU Music Department.
