The Carpenter's Sons have applied to the Mount Vernon Historic Review Commission to determine if their plans to expand a porch on East Sugar Street are appropriate. The commission will hold a hearing on the application at its June 13 meeting.

According to the application attached to the Historic Review Commission's June 13 meeting, Lauren Miller seeks approval for a 12-foot by 7-foot porch on the single-family home at 103 E. Sugar Street, Mount Vernon. The proposed covered porch would be added to an existing home that currently has a much smaller porch.

The application notes that the porch would not meet the 30-foot setback requirements. It would be nine feet from the front property line, with the front steps extending three to six feet from this line.

Veneer stone is planned for the outside of the porch's foundation, as stated in the application attached to the Historic Review Commission's June 13 meeting. The stone would resemble a stone retaining wall located on the east side of the house.
