Law Director Rob Broeren will be able to hire a summer intern a month earlier, thanks to the adoption of an ordinance by the Mount Vernon City Council.

Broeren informed the city council that amending an ordinance approved last year would allow him to hire a summer intern in May, as per the minutes packet for Mount Vernon City Council's meeting on May 13. The original ordinance only covered June, July and August, but the academic year for college students typically concludes earlier.

According to the same minutes packet, the summer intern will receive $12 an hour for a maximum of 40 hours per week. The tenure of an intern is limited to 10 weeks. It was also clarified that this part-time position does not qualify for any additional benefits.

Councilmember Tammy Woods proposed the motion to approve, with Amber Keener seconding it, according to the minutes packet for Mount Vernon City Council's May 13 meeting. The motion was passed unanimously.
