The Lexington girls’ track team is coming off a 2023 season where they won the OCC and the district, as well as taking first at the Upper Sandusky Invite, Edison Invite, Marion Invite and Galion Invite.
Coach Michelle Smith, who has been at Lexington for 23 years, said the success this season relies on both the upper and lower-classmen. She predicts the team will finish in the top two this year.
“We have a good mix of freshmen to seniors,” Smith said. “We have girls stepping up to fill in other leadership roles.”
The strengths of the team this year are in distance, sprints, relays, high jump and long jump. Weaknesses are in the throwing events, as well as the pole vault.
“I expect the distance to be top athletes; Elyana- indoor state qualifier in high jump and 800 meters this year, Olyvia Stoots- indoor state qualifier in long jump and 4x200 with Emily Thomas, Alli Laury, and Makenna Arnholt (60 meter hurdle qualifier),” Smith said. “Brailey Slone was fifth place at state last year in the 3200.”
