Mount Vernon Nazarene University's Music Department is set to host a spring instrumental ensemble concert on Tuesday at the R.R. Hodges Chapel Auditorium. The event, which is free of charge, welcomes members of the community.

According to a press release from Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU), the Jazz Band, Flute Choir, and Symphonic Wind Ensemble will be performing. The MVNU Jazz Band's program will feature a diverse range of ballads, pop, and jazz standards such as "This Masquerade," famously performed by Karen Carpenter and to be rendered by Caitlin Rowe at the event. Other pieces include George Shearing's "Conception," arranged by Mark Taylor, and Henry Mancini's "Dreamsville." Bob Curnow's ballad "Promise of Dreams" will feature a flute and piano duet by Judy Bennett and Christopher Hawthorne. The Jazz Band is under the direction of Chuck Dettmar.

The MVNU press release also reveals that the Symphonic Wind Ensemble's program will draw inspiration from the theme of choreography. Robert Sheldon's composition bearing this title will inaugurate the program. It will be followed by an arrangement by Robert Russell Bennett of "Suite of Old American Dances" and Norman Dello Joio's "Scenes from The Louvre." Visual art pieces created by students from MVNU's Art Department will accompany these musical performances. John Packard serves as director for the Symphonic Wind Ensemble.

The Flute Choir, composed of both students and community members, is also scheduled to perform several works as per the MVNU press release. Jennifer Packard directs this ensemble.
