Alesha Felix had seven points and grabbed 12 rebounds in what Coach Tyler Bates called "the game of her life," as she also helped hold Springfield's top scorer to only four points. | Coach Tyler Bates

Alesha Felix played what Coach Tyler Bates called the “game of her life” last week, as she helped shut down the top scorer of Springfield to give Loudonville the Regional title. Her stellar defense and ability to grab boards was integral in the win, and for that, she is the newest Mount Vernon News Athlete of the Week.

It was a low scoring affair all around, at 40-14, but Felix made her mark by scoring the third most points on the team with seven. She was a force cleaning up the glass with 12 rebounds in the win. While the numbers aren't over the top and jump off the page, the play of Felix was integral for Loudonville to come away with the win and keep the opposing scoring so low.

The biggest aspect of Felix’s performance was guarding Jameka Brungard on Springfield. She was the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Player of the Year and went into the game averaging about 16 points. Brungard couldn’t get it going at all, and was held to only four points in the game.

Overall, it was a masterful performance on defense for the Redbirds, and Felix was a huge catalyst. Bates called it one of the best defensive performances by a Redbird team in a decade.

Congratulations to Alexa Felix and good luck in the Final Four in Dayton!
