potluck luncheon | Fredericktown Senior Citizens

The Fredericktown Senior Citizens met on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. There were 30 members present for the Christmas Luncheon provided by this organization and Lannings Foods. Prayer was giving by Paul James and then the Pledge of Allegiance.

Chief Tracy Myers was a surprise guest speaker. Fredericktown Schools were dismissed early on Tuesday, December 12 because of a text threat. Chief Myers explained that there were several messages starting on Sunday with a bomb threat, which there was no bomb. On Tuesday, it was decided for the health and safety of the students, Superintendent Gary Chapman and Chief Myers would send the students home early. Three other schools in Ohio received the same text that day. Fredericktown did follow their procedures on handling this situation. Reminder to all students and parents, if they receive such a text, to report it and not share it. Law Enforcement has a better chance of catching the originator of the text. Other reminder is the Neighborhood Watch meets every third Tuesday of the month at the Village Council Chambers at 6:30 p.m., except for January, which it will be on the third Wednesday.

Margaret Ann Ruhl had the Secretary’s minutes and Phyllis Shira had the Treasurer's report. Thank you note was received from Hospice of North Central in memory of Bernard Blanchard.

Birthdays for the month of December, Vonda Turner and Irma Jones and all sang Happy Birthday. No anniversaries in December. Deaths reported this past month of Denzel Koppert. A plate of food will be taken to Sandra Koppert.

Old Business – By-Laws were discussed again. A motion by Ann Ullman to dissolve the current By-Laws since we don’t lease the building and have to maintain it. Terry Gaddis second the motion and motion passed. It was discussed to just be a Social Club meeting once a month.

New Business – Welcome Martha Blanchard and Terry Gaddis back. Margaret Ann Ruhl announced Brenda Gerhart and she are working on bus trips for next year. Already set is May 23 to LaComedia Dinner Theater for Plowin’ Thru and June 20 to Cleveland Guardians. Kathryn Williams suggested to do some exercising to keep from getting stiff as she has to with her neck to not have headaches.

Ann Ullman read some funny jokes for Christmastime.

Announcements – Larry Ullman is having hand surgery in January. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

Next meeting is January 10 with Recycling to come and reminder if Fredericktown Schools are closed, we are also. If it is a delay, watch to make sure they don’t close later. If they are open, we will have our luncheon.
