The Fredericktown Senior Citizens met on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at 11:45 a.m. There were 18 members and 1 guest present for the potluck luncheon. Prayer was giving by Ray Davis and then the Pledge of Allegiance.
Guest speaker was the Superintendent for Fredericktown Local Schools, Gary Chapman. Chapman mentioned the new winners to the School Board are Kristine Lindeman and Shelly Wenger. He looks forward to working with them and the remaining school board starting in January, 2024. Chapman talked about the happenings at the school and handed out a Fredericktown Local Schools Quality Profile brochure. This group had questions about communication with us to the school board last month and Chapman discussed different ways to handle it, even if you don’t have a computer. Each Principal does a biweekly newsletter to all the parents and they can try to add the Senior citizens to that list, being Margaret Ann Ruhl as secretary. Always interesting to hear what is happening at the local school.
Margaret Ann Ruhl read the Secretary’s minutes. Belinda Litt moved to accept the minutes. Ray Davis second the motion and motion passed. Phyllis Shira gave the Treasurer's report. Larry Ullman moved to accept the report and Belinda Litt second. The motion passed.
No Birthdays for the month of November and 1 anniversary being Delmis and Terry Gaddis for 57 years. All sang happy anniversary to them. Also, it is nice to have Delmis back at the luncheon. No deaths were reported this past month.
Old Business – Margaret Ann Ruhl read the Board’s suggestions for guest speakers for next calendar year. It is open to discussion if there are others.
New Business – Superintendent Chapman mentioned the attendance to the LifeWise Program being about 120 students. Karen Seward has the book that started LifeWise. It is to provide to young people starting with Kindergarten age, to have the opportunity to learn the word of God. She hopes to finish and maybe share with those interested in reading the book. Discussion on having the Christmas luncheon catered and have music. Our historian, Vonda Turner mentioned that the Trustees are to only serve three years and that time is up. It is in the bylaws and what do we want to do about it. Maybe have that discussion next month about filling these positions. Phyllis Shira asked what is the purpose of the trustees now that we don’t lease this building. If we don’t fill these positions, we need to change the bylaws. Margaret Ann Ruhl reported on possible trips for next year and she asked for any suggested trips. Terry Gaddis suggested the Bob Evans Festival in October next year or Belinda Litt suggested the Age of Steam Roundhouse in Sugarcreek. Good suggestions and Brenda Gerhart and Margaret Ann Ruhl will look into them.
Announcements – Wayne Grange is hosting an open house on November 12 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. All are welcome to come.
Next meeting is December 13 with Christmas music.
Meeting adjourned by Vonda Turner and second by Penny Sajkowsky.
