Dr. Mark Boynton, the driving force behind Family Chiropractic and Nutrition LLC, is dedicated to addressing the unique healthcare needs of underserved populations, such as pediatrics and pregnancy.

By concentrating on these areas, Dr. Boynton believes in offering essential care for expectant mothers dealing with the discomforts of pregnancy and enhancing their chances of easier, faster, safer and less painful deliveries through chiropractic intervention.

“I've always been interested in pediatrics and pregnancy as a section of the population. I find they don't often get the care that I feel they need,” Dr. Boynton told Mount Vernon News.

While mainstream medicine struggles to provide expectant mothers relief from aches and pains due to concerns about the baby's safety, chiropractic care offers a safe and effective treatment option that is really a great marriage of what the patient needs and what we can deliver.

Dr. Boynton incorporates a blend of chiropractic techniques that leads to improved outcomes for his patients. He emphasizes the often-overlooked role of chiropractic care in maintaining children's health.

Dr. Boynton points out that, even without apparent health issues, everyone, but especially children should receive ongoing care due to their continuous growth and development.

"Dysfunction in the body happens way before pain presents itself as a symptom," he said.

"Children tend to be more active than adults and when they're really little they fall as much as they’re up. The elevated stress levels in our modern world makes chiropractic care an invaluable resource for promoting resilience and stress reduction for children and frankly everybody. In a growing child, from birth on up, their neurology is maturing along with their body. It’s sensing and reacting to new things, adapting and learning every day and chiropractic care can help eliminate any interference that may be impacting their neurology unlike any other profession."

Dr. Boynton discussed chiropractic's historical focus of the "three Ts" – toxins, traumas, and thoughts and how they affect people.

He underlines that a mother's experiences are shared with her baby, not just through physiological means but also via the nervous system's intimate connection between the two.

“People don't think about how negative and stressful thoughts affect themselves, not to mention their kids and, frankly, how it can affect the unborn child as mom carries it through their development,” Dr. Boynton said. "Toxins and trauma are more easily understood in our culture but we’re now starting to really give credence to the power of thoughts on our health."

Dr. Boynton said a modified approach is taken when providing chiropractic care to babies and children. It looks a lot different treating babies than what it does when treating an older child, teenager or adult.

“One thing that parents are always concerned about is risk. I want parents to understand that there’s lots of ways we can modify care if they're concerned," he said. "The application of gentle pressure and gentle thrusts using only my fingers because of their underdeveloped skeletal system and other soft tissue. Frankly, every patient receives slightly different care because they’re all different people."

Dr. Boynton offers reassurance about the safety of chiropractic care to would-be patients who may be hesitant. Chiropractic is arguably one of safest of all healing professions.

“An example I often give patients is to look at the malpractice prices chiropractors pay versus medical doctors, it's pennies compared to what they pay just because what we do is much lower risk. That’s why your teenager pays so much for their auto insurance compared to their parents, because they're at higher risk. That’s how insurance works, they price you on your risk,” he said.

Dr. Boynton envisions a role for chiropractic care as the first point of contact for parents, especially for common childhood issues such as constipation, upset tummies and a myriad of other issues.

"Neurology is king and controls everything, absolutely everything," he said. "There is nothing in the human body that escapes the control and oversight of neurology and there is no other profession that can stimulate your neurology like the chiropractic profession. A growing number of parents don’t want to put their children on medications if they don’t have to. There is certainly a need for it in some instances, but there are also many holistic options for common issues that parents may not know about. As chiropractors our goal is getting the interference in the nervous system out of the way and allowing the body to heal itself as it was divinely designed to do."

Dr. Boynton's patient-centered approach places great value on giving patients the time to express their concerns, have their questions addressed, and their fears eased. In his practice, he treats his patients with the same respect and consideration he desires as a patient himself. He applies the “golden rule” to how he treats his patients.

"It is very gratifying to be able to help out young mothers and their babies and watch these children grow and thrive and hopefully have the chance to treat them through their youth and then treat the next generation. I enjoy getting to know and support families as they try and navigate our ever changing world," he said. "We are accepting new patients so give us a call and we’ll get you in and start you on a new path of wellness."
