She loved Engelbert Humperdinck, tiny Maltese dogs, her front porch swing, dessert with her dinner, roller coasters at King's Island and her favorite Amish restaurant in Sugarcreek, Ohio.
More than anything, Diane June Green loved her family and the Lord.
And on Sunday, August 6, 2023, with her devoted daughter at her side, Diane, 80, finally escaped years of pain and poor health and passed away in her sleep at Brookdale Senior Living in Mount Vernon, Ohio. No longer trapped in the purgatory of dementia, we know she's now in a better place -- surrounded by those loved ones who preceded her in death.
Diane was born in Newcomerstown, Ohio, on July 10, 1943, to the late Charles and Barbara (Wagner) Bassett. She grew up in the Assembly of God church and believed in both the power of prayer and the importance of forgiving those who trespass against us.
She is survived by her husband, James R. Green of Dover, Ohio. Other survivors include her daughter, Tammy (Green) Dannemiller of Mount Vernon, Ohio, and her son, Richard Green of Santa Rosa, California. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is her youngest sister, Connie (Bassett) Parks of Newcomerstown, Ohio. She is the youngest of Barb and Charlie's nine children and was a constant positive force in Diane's life, even up to her final hours. Connie's cards, visits and letters uplifted Diane's spirits on her darkest days.
In addition to her parents, Diane was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters and her first husband, Charles Border of West Lafayette, Ohio.
We extend special gratitude to the Brookdale staff for their constant love, care and support of Diane since February. They created a unique family environment, and she felt safe and protected there. Thank you for your kindness.
It's said that life doesn't come with a manual; it comes with a Mother. That is very true, and Tammy and Richard are thankful God brought them into Diane's world. She taught them how to live life to its fullest, to always be kind and humble and to do unto others as you'd have them do unto you. They also inherited her love of long road trips and late-night drives.
Rest in peace, Mom. This long goodbye has indeed been long and winding. We know it's often been painful and confusing for you, too. We are grateful you finally have found the peace that eluded you so long. Unshackled and healthy again, may you be reunited with those you love and sing praises to the Lord.
And perhaps an occasional Engelbert ballad, too.
Our lives was never be the same without you, Mom. We was always love each and other.
